Wall Street Journal Editor’s Note Emma Tucker Tuesday to the staff.
Dear Colleagues,
We are encouraged that Evan’s attorneys, represented by Dow Jones, were able to meet with him in prison today. Evan is doing well and is grateful for the support from around the world. We continue to call for his immediate release.
Legal avenues are one of several avenues we are working to secure Evan’s release. We continue to work with the appropriate officials at the White House, the State Department, and the US government to secure Evan’s release.
Our thoughts are first with Evan’s family, who I spent time with on Sunday. They are incredibly resilient in the face of extraordinarily difficult circumstances. They are relieved to know we finally have a connection with Evan. We continue to stand with Evan’s family as they face this trial.
I’m very proud of how this newsroom has come together not only to stand in solidarity with Evan, but to passionately advocate for him, both as a fellow journalist and as a friend. I’m also grateful to all of our colleagues at Dow Jones and colleagues in the journalism industry who have stood strong with us to protect Evan and the free press.
