The 2023 Australia India tour is underway and after winning the Test series 2-1, India now host the Aussies for a 3-match ODI series. They won the first match at the Wankhede and then the action shifted to Vizag where India were asked to bat first. And just like in the first game, India saw themselves lose a number of wickets up front.
This time it was Mitchell Starc who destroyed the top order, picking all the first four wickets to fall, including Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and KL. Rahul. But we are writing this to talk about the fall of the fifth wicket, where the Australian captain Steve Smith took a one-handed beauty at first slip, diving full length to take the wicket of Hardik Pandya.

Steve Smith caught in the 2nd ODI vs India
Sean Abbott had just been brought into the attack and was bowling his second in the 10th over of India’s innings when he managed to find Hardik Pandya’s outside edge. It was the first ball of the over and the edge flew to Smith’s right, who leaped like Superman and stuck one hand out to take another classic catch in the slip cardon.
He is always known as a great catcher in crickets but this was an amazing dive, very parallel to the ground. On-air commentators noted that it would not have been humanly possible to dive to his right than he did here. And this comes after another very sharp catch in the same position to dismiss Rohit Sharma earlier in the day. See catch here.

And he even picked a similar one-handed screamer in the Test series, so we’re not surprised that Smith produced this impressive one-handed effort. Social media was immediately on fire after he took this catch which reduced India to 49/5, losing half of his team in the very first 10 overs of the game.
Pandya is in great form after leading his team to the IPL 2022 title last year and he is an important part of this Indian team. His wicket would be crucial for the visitors and it required a lot of effort from the captain. Pandya was dismissed for 1(3) and plunged India deeper into the game as the Aussies aim to level the ODI series.

India won the first match by 5 wickets and even in that match they lost half of their team at almost any time. However, they proved in that game that they have the character to overcome, even though they lost a neck early on.
