Xtra Time Web Desk. The Board of Control for Cricket in India plans to field a second-string side for the proposed white-ball series against Afghanistan. The three-match ODI series is likely to be played between the World Test Championship final and India’s tour of the Caribbean. There is a possibility that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could be rested.
All the Indian cricketers were involved in the brutal IPL 2023 season. The Test squad players will travel to London immediately after the final for the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval from June 7-11.
The selectors are considering resting some senior cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma before they head to the Caribbean for a full tour against the West Indies that includes two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.
With the only window for the Afghanistan series between June 20-30, BCCI may have to squeeze the series during this time and play a second-string game under Hardik Pandya. Afghanistan Cricket Board Chairman Mirwais Ashraf, who is in India for the IPL 2023 final, will meet BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and complete the white-ball series.
