Reuters. Zelensky says Ukraine may withdraw from Bakhmut if the Russians approach

KIEV (Reuters) – President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Poland during a visit to Warsaw for “historic” help in rallying Western support for Ukraine and said Ukrainian troops were still fighting for Bakhmut in the east but could withdraw if threatened.

Poland has provided vital weaponry to Kiev since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year and took in millions of Ukrainian refugees. During Zelenskiy’s visit, Warsaw announced that it would send 10 MiG fighter jets to Kiev, in addition to the four previously provided.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said Warsaw is also working to secure additional security guarantees for Ukraine at a NATO summit in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in July.

WNU editorThere are reports that three quarters of Bakhmut is now under Russian control… Russian forces claim they “legitimately” control Bakhmut, but Ukraine says fighting is still ongoing (NBC News). There are also reports that all roads leading to Bakhmut are under Russian fire control. If true, it may be difficult, if not impossible, for Ukraine to get out of the city if the order comes through.
