A flurry of recent moves has Bruins nation reeling. General manager Don Sweeney acquired defenseman Dimitri Orlov and forward Garnett Hathaway. Also traded jerseys to Red Wing forward Tyler Bertucci. All three players bring needed fight to the roster. In return, the Bruins gave up a number of draft picks over the next few years. In this post, we’ll discuss three reasons why these moves will entice Bruin Nation.
In Dimitri Orlov, the “Bruins” got an unsuccessful defenseman. In his first few games, Orlov recorded two assists and two assists. Orlov provides significant depth to Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, Brandon Carlo, Derek Forbot and Connor Clifton.
Offensive punch
In Garnett Hathaway, the Bruins get depth on their fourth line. Hathaway adds grit and toughness to the lineup. Tyler Bertuzzi, long =time Red Wing drives extra points. With injuries to Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno, Bertuzzi is welcome.
Hathaway brings grit and energy to the fourth line. That’s what the Bruins have lacked in previous rounds of the playoffs. With more physical talent, opposing teams will fear the Bruins in a seven-game series.
MVP goaltender
The third reason the Bruins will be successful is goaltender Linus Ullmark. Ullmark was signed as a free agent by Buffalo two years ago. With 17 games remaining, Ullmark’s record is an impressive 33-4 with a .938 save percentage. He scored an open net goal early in the season.
Many people around the NHL believe that Ullmark is the MVP goalie backup goaltender Jeremy Swayman has been inconsistent. Look for head coach Jim Montgomery to rest Ullmark and use Swayman.
Conclusion
Winning the Stanley Cup is a long way off. The Bruins need solid goaltending from both Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark to win the Cup. Counting on one goalkeeper will put pressure on the team and coaches.
