Karamoja Affairs Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu and her brother Naboya Kitutu have been remanded in Luzira prison until April 12, 2023 for corruption after diverting iron sheets meant for the Karamoja community empowerment project.
The minister and his brother were arraigned at the Kampala Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday and charged with two counts of embezzlement of public property and conspiracy to defraud.
Yesterday, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) sanctioned charges of corruption and criminal conspiracy against June 15. Kitutu. DPP Jane Francis Abodo agreed to the charges before directing the police to arraign the minister in court today.
On the charge of loss of public property, the DPP alleges that between June 2022 and January 2023, the minister caused damage to public property in the form of 9,000 pre-painted iron gauge 28 at Namanwe shops in Mukono County by diverting said iron sheets. for the intended purpose of benefiting the Karamoja Community Empowerment Project for the benefit of himself and third parties, having reason to believe that such action would result in the loss of the said property.
According to the second article, he is accused of the loss of 5,500 iron sheets.
