
Argentine striker Julian Alvarez has extended his contract with Manchester City for one year until June 2028.
Alvarez joined Manchester City from River Plate in July 2022 and has scored 10 goals in 33 appearances for the Citizens this season, plus four for Argentina on their way to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
City have therefore moved to extend Alvarez’s contract by a year, meaning he will remain at the Etihad Stadium until June 2028.
Speaking after he signed his new contract just months after joining the club, Alvarez commented: “This is a very proud moment for me and my family. To have such faith in a club like City is amazing to me.”

City’s director of football Tchiki Begiristain added that Alvarez had “impressed” with “his technical ability, commitment and attitude”.
Begiristain also reiterated that Alvarez is a role model for young footballers around the world as he said: “He is an ideal blueprint for a young footballer and an inspiration to anyone looking to make their way into the game.
“He has already shown here in England that he has great movement and natural instincts to score goals.”
Begiristain concluded that Alvarez is a “special talent” after helping Argentina to the World Cup at the age of just 23, but warned that City “are now fully focused on developing his game even further and turning him into one of the best strikers in the world. football”.
