The Azerbaijani side took this step on Thursday. It alleges that Iranian embassy staff have committed acts that violate the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The Iranian ambassador in Baku was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and was given a letter of protest for “provocative actions of Iran against Azerbaijan”.
Baku’s anti-Iranian statements and actions take place after the last visit of the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan to Israel.
Last week, Iran demanded an explanation from Azerbaijan regarding the agreement to create a “united front against the Islamic Republic” with the Zionist regime.
Following Iran’s announcement, Baku claimed to have arrested six people in connection with the assassination attempt on an Azerbaijani lawmaker.
It also claimed that Tehran was involved in the plot. Iran denies this.
Tehran has repeatedly warned the Republic of Azerbaijan not to allow Israel to divide Tehran and Baku.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said recently. “We advise our Azerbaijani Muslim brothers and sisters to be alert to the real intentions of the Zionist enemy.”
