Amazon now allows T-mobile customers to link their mobile numbers and make or receive free Wi-Fi calls with Alexa-enabled devices like the Echo Dot or Echo Show. This comes more than two years after the e-commerce giant partnered with AT&T for a similar feature.
Customers must connect T-Mobile with Alexa skills from the Skills store and link their number to get started. After the setup is complete, they can say “Alexa, call John” or “Alexa, dial XXX-XXX-XXX” to make a call. When they receive a call, they can say “Alexa, answer the call” or “Alexa, reject the call.” Users can also call 911 emergency services through Alexa by saying “Alexa, call 911.”
Once set up, calls will be available on all Alexa devices linked to your account. To disable calling any of them, go to More>Settings>Communication in the Alexa app. Then tap T-Mobile and deselect devices under Allow Calling.
“With this new Alexa Skill, you can integrate your mobile number with Alexa on all three major US network carriers: T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon. This benefit gives you more choice and makes it easier to connect with the family and friends who matter most, whenever you want and wherever you are,” Amazon said in a blog post.
T-Mobile’s support page suggests that prepaid, business, state, and Sprint accounts cannot use this service.
