A Syrian refugee has been elected the first migrant mayor of a German city, NPR

Ryan Alshebl, who fled the war in Syria, won the election, becoming the first migrant mayor of the German city of Baden-Württemberg. Naturally, the first thing he did was call his mother to Syria.
